EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY: WHY YOU'RE NOT GETTING THE RESULTS IN THE GYM YOU WANT.

 

 

Today I will be giving you the honest and unfortunate truth of why you’re not seeing the results you want in the gym. With over a decade worth of experience in the fitness industry I have heard and have seen all the reasons why people do not reach their fitness goals, This blog will tackle some of the more common expectations people want and expect from their choices and what the reality of their choices really are.

 

I EAT HEALTHY

Yes this is the most common thing I hear from my parents, my friends, my clients, and just about every other individual alike. This is where I often have to call Bullshit on them.  So I ask them what are you eating and the first answer is usually the healthy things that they had eaten “grilled chicken with brussel sprouts and green beans.” Then when I dig further into their eating habits I find out about their snacks (sugary granola bars), their ordering out habits (Grub Hub binges), and social drinking habits (boozy root beer floats) as well. So the truth is you may be eating some healthy things but the reality is that you are trumping those healthy things with much more unhealthy eating habits.

The snacks, the ordering out, and the social drinking are acceptable but this has to be in far more moderation then the actual “healthy eating” you do. A consistent and healthy eating plan will get you to the results you want. Too many cheats and it will be a recipe for disaster. Stop BSING and commit to a balanced eating lifestyle (see my blogpost on maximizing your training through nutrition).

 

I WORKOUT ALL THE TIME
You may or you may not. Sometimes this statement is true and sometimes it’s not. The real question is do your workouts reflect your goals. Sure you want to lose 20 pounds of fat in 6 weeks for that Bermuda trip you’re going on, but why are you only strength training 15 minutes a day 3 times a week and doing zero work conditioning? Reality is going to bite you in the ass hard on this one when you realize you’ve wasted 6 weeks of training and saw zero results. Be smart, if you want to lose 20 pounds of fat research what the best way to do so is. You can ask trained professionals or you can find out just about anything you ever wanted to about your goals on the interweb.

 

THIS IS JUST NOT WORKING. TIME TO CHANGE THINGS UP.

So you have just started your new training routine, your two weeks in and you’re not seeing the results you wanted. Well here is your reality check. Results often do not come easy or quickly. It takes work and effort and if you are committing to a routine or program then stick it out for the duration of the routine or program. Then once doing so take an honest evaluation and gauge results. Training for two weeks is not going to knock the fat off your ass from the donuts you have been eating every day for the last 6 months trust me.

 

With all of these things your really need to ask yourself are you doing what it really takes to achieve your goals. If you can honestly answer yes then you should be seeing the results. If any of these points above sound familiar to you then give yourself an honest reality check. Listen it's not going to be easy. Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy. If you put in an honest effort in your everyday life to eat healthy, train properly, and be honest with yourself then any goal is obtainable. So don’t’ be afraid to give yourself a kick in the ass or find someone who can do it for you!
